Another reason is that the bears have become very acclimated to bear bags and
what they represent (i.e. Goodies) These same bears - or at least close kin -
have also figured out how to bounce a car and get the goodies out of the trunk.
If they ever learn the secret of a screwdriver, well, things will certainly get
interesting.

Fortunately, Phil-bears still haven't figured this out, at least for now, and
get hassled enough that the risk isn't worth the reward. I do find it
interesting though that some of the more frequent locations for bear sightings
are the camps with chuck wagon dinners and near commissaries. Go figure.
