I gave each member of the crew I advised 1 2-1/2 gal ziploc bag for
personal smellables. We each put our names on them. I put my film,
camera, chewing gum, chapstick, and anything else in that bag with my
name on it. That went into the bear bag at the end of the day. Next
morning when we brought the bear bags back to camp, it was easier to
find my stuff in one sack than rummaging for lots of other smaller
parcels or items. The key thing about this bag is that it's waterproof
when zipped and heavy duty enough to last the week without getting torn.
I also used one of these bags to wrap my camp shoes in, keeping the rest
of the stuff in my pack cleaner and drier. Again, being heavier
plastic, it didn't tear. In fact, I'm still using both bags a year
later. My local Walmart carries them in the camping section, 7 bags for
about $6. They come in a plastic bag container hanging on a store rack,
not a box on a shelf---I spent several weeks looking for a box of these
bags before I stumbled across the right packaging (too accustomed to
other Ziploc and related products being boxed!).
