To make a long answer short: Yes, you can display your
pictures on CD on a DVD player, depending on the DVD
player and the format of the pictures:

Since our 1996 trek, I have always placed the pictures
taken by our crew on a CD in JPEG (.jpg) format. I add map
images, notes, captions, text, and write some html code to
organize the pictures and data into an electronic picture
album that can be viewed on any computer with a CD drive
and a web browser. Each member of my crew receives a copy
of the CD as a gift from me (for putting up with the old,
fat, slow guy on the trail).

We recently purchased a cheap DVD player that said on the
box it displays "Kodak Picture Format" CD's. I was
pleasantly surprised to learn that placing my Philmont
picture album CDs in the player starts a "slide show" of
the .jpg format pictures. It takes the DVD player a few
minutes to scan the disk for pictures, but once it finds
them, it starts the slideshow.

Enjoy your pictures!
