[Philmont]: BUGS

Here in the northeast especially in the Adirondack Mountains of New York the
mosquitoes are there worst in the late spring and early summer. Midway
through July the weather gets hot and dry and the mosquitoes are less of a
problem.

In my four treks at Philmont I have not had run into the bug / mosquito
problems indicated on the list. My earliest trek was July 13th and my
latest was Aug 11th. I have always equated the lack of mosquitoes to being
past mid July and the infamous "Arid southwest" you hear so much about.

I would bet that by July 26th the bug population will be way down from the
reports we are hearing about from this year. With that said bring the deet
and hope for the best.

Anyone experience bugs in the North and Valle Vidal? We have trek 9 on
July 26.
