I realize I was not required to take off my shoes or let them search my bag.
  My approach is to try and cooperate with the folks who have this important
job to do and I do not consider them, the government they work for, or the
extra precautions taken to be a "tyranny" of any sort. As a matter of fact the
shoes that were removed were running shoes while I was wearing boots and did
not have to take mine off.
