For our training treks I'd like my crews to set up a "dining fly" the Philmont way.
My recollection is that one long piece of line is threaded thru the grommets a particular way,
but when I try to figure out exactly where the lines goes, I keep needing to have two lines, not one.
Any chance that someone has a picture of how this is done and so can save thousands of words?
Else, could someone (possibly our intrepid retired ranger Jason) describe it?
I recall this much - the letters are various positions:
A B C
X
D E F
G H
I J
K L M
Y
N 0 P
A,B C,N,O,P are stakes;
X and Y are the poles (outside, not thru, the center grommets E & L);
D,F,K,M are the corner grommets of the dining fly;
E & L are grommets in middle of short sides;
G,H,I,J are grommets along the long sides.
My recollection is that a line runs from stake B,
is clove-hitched to pole X,
makes a loop up thru grommet E and is held there by a small stick,
is a "ridge line" from E to L,
loops up thru grommet L and another stick,
is clove-hitched to pole Y,
down to stake O.
I also recall a line from corner stakes along the sides:
from A to D to G to I to K to N,
and somehow continuing over to the other side.
But how does this also be part of the B,X,E,L,Y,O ridge line?
Or is my memory bad, and this setup really takes two pieces of line?
Help!
