All,
I have used New Skin for pre-treating known hotspot areas on my feet for
the past five years.
I first learned about the concept on this list. This product (and method)
work well, for me and my
peculiar feet. I have tried a variety of other products (moleskin, etc.)
and find that this is the only one that
takes care of my specific needs.
New Skin is a clear liquid. It comes with an applicator brush, attached to
the inside of the lid.
A tiny little jar (not sure of quantity) lasts me an entire trek - bottle
is less than 2 inch tall and
one inch diameter.
Each morning, with my feet clean and dry, I apply several layers (allowing
each layer to dry).
If needed, I re-apply during the day.
If my feet are kept dry, the coating lasts. If socks get wet, the product
softens and rubs off (quicker).
BTW - I have "hammer-toe" and my main hotspots are on the tops of several
toes. I occasional
get hotspots on my heels. New Skin works (for me) better, on my heels, than
anything else.
I do hike a lot and my boots are as well fitted, as off the shelf boots can
be, my trouble is mainly
related to my feet shape/style. I have also experimented with various sock
combinations and have
found that liner socks and synthetic backpacking socks work best, for me.....
I imagine others may have different needs and results....
