[Philmont]: Miller Moths

We ran into an amazing sight on Mt. Phillips on the 27th. Miller moths in
the millions were flying over the top of Mt. Phillips from east to west.
After dark, headlamps just lighted almost solid streams of moths. We still aren't
sure how they avoided us but very few flew into us. The next morning if you
bumped a branch, hundreds of very cold moths fell onto the ground. In the
tents you could hear a constant hum from the wings of the moths.

These moths migrate from the plains to the mountains to feed on wildflower
nectar during the summer and back to the plains to breed and die in the fall.
We get lots of these in the Denver area in spring and fall. Now I know where
they are in the summer!
