As I recall, this was the issue that stopped Philmont rangers from
encouraging "gut sumping" or watering down the remains of any cooked food
and eating it.

If Philmont is not going to ask folks to compact their trash which only
makes good common sense then they need to field strip the packaging in
advance or provide dumpsters in the back country. Now there's a thought, you
climb up to Wilson Mesa for a grand view of Baldy and you see a Waste
Management dumpster in the middle of the mesa!
