To understand the diplomacy required of a Ranger at Philmont is to be
well read on the ins and outs of the life of a diplomat at the US State
Department. Being a Ranger requires at times the skills of Henry Kissinger...keep in
mind present Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld got much of his training as a
Ranger at Philmont.
On a serious note...Rangers are well trained and pledge to conduct
themselves in an exempleary fashion according to the Scout Oath and Law. The vast
majority of Rangers receive great reviews and evaluations and are very
closely monitored.
Most interpersonal problems start with Crew Advisors who are
"experienced" and are looking to out do the Ranger. Conduct for Rangers is clearly
codified in their handbook. Rangers are taught to go out of their way to avoid
confrontations with Advisors.
If in the view of an adult hazing was taking place it is incumbent upon
the adult to draw this to the attention of the appropriate Philmont staff
immediately.
