This is academic as they are taking all trash this year...but here is a
good exercise in crew dynamics:

The thing for an advisor to do is discuss the situation with the crew chief
rather than try to get involved with the staff. Let the crew decide what
they can do. Here are a few options that I see:
1. Say you will compact it more, hit a few times and take it back. The
staff may have just wanted to give the crew a hard time and will take any
second effort.
2. Really give it another go, even if you think it is a brick
already. Maybe other crews have been doing a lot better. Ask to see what
they have been getting from other crews and compare.
3. Take it with you and hand it in at the next staff camp.

You may find other issues this year instead. Allow the staff to challenge
the crew and let the crew react and find their own options. You may be
surprised as what happens.
