I just told my younger son about the "no compacting due to harassment"
rule at Philmont. (His trek was in 2001, and he turned 15 on the trail.
He's almost 17.) He said, "No compacting! That was the best part!"
I can't even tell you how many stories I've heard about compacting
trash. Their crew had so much fun with it! My husband and older son
were on the same trek, and they all still compact. When my older son
lived in a college dorm, he really wished that his roommate would
compact all that trash he created!
