I was an advisor in 2002 I had no trouble with feet or blisters. My boots
fit well and were broken in. I had done plenty of training hikes and walks
and my feet were tough enough for the task. I had seen lots of information
about taking care of my feet.

My hands were a different story. My hands were not prepared for the
constant exposure to "heat and cold" as well as "dry, dusty and wet". After
about 3 days my hands were extremely dry and beginning to crack around the
fingertips. I had brought a small amount of lotion which I applied in the
morning and thru the day until about 3pm, but it couldn't keep up. The tips
of my fingers became so tender that operating zippers was a major problem.

My fingers peeled for several weeks after I returned home.

Our troop is preparing for another expedition in 2004. I hope to return
with them. I have bought a pair of light, soft leather gloves to use while
working around camp and even while hiking. I am looking forward to the next
11 months of preparation for our expedition.
