[Philmont]: PTC Spouses Program

My wife has always amazed me with her activities with the PTC Spouses
program.
You see my wife is not an outdoors person but she has thoroughly enjoyed
three trips to PTC
(except for sleeping in a tent even one with a light bulb!!)
An oversize sleeping bag has helped a lot

The spouses program has many options some with others, some alone -

Alone -
Handicraft Lodge, Read, Fish (with NM License), travel here and there

With Others -
Hike (actually a walk) of the day (Nature trail, T Rex print, Lover's Leap,
Uracca Trail)
Tour of the Day (Raton, Cimarron, Rayado, Museums, Taos)
Craft of the Day - each day the handicraft has a different specialty craft
they are teaching for adults
C.O.P.E. for half a week

In 1994 my wife did the hikes - this surprised me
Then in 2001 she really shocked me - she did C.O.P.E.!!
And in 2003, she did C.O.P.E. again!!!

In C.O.P.E. she met many other spouses and they all had to learn to work
together to accomplish the elements.
She recognized many of the first ones (low elements - said "We spent all day
doing Jr. Leader stuff")
By the end of the week she had some really good friends!!
They do many low elements but end with one high element - a zip line
Although she did the low ones, and learned to trust the people,
my wife did not do the one high element

She was amazed how we all have the same problems and really enjoyed swapping
stories from the spouse's side.

On Family Day (Wednesday)
in 2001, we hiked Uracca
In 2003, we hiked Lover's Leap
(When showing her pictures from there from my 2000 trek, she asked where are
the guard rails?)

Anyway, your wife should have a great time and if on Wednesday she wants to
go elsewhere, take her out for a treat!!
There is a 50's style diner in Angelfire (or is it Eagle's Nest??)
whichever is closer to Cimarron
Or ask some staffers for other good places!!

My daughter is on PTC Staff this year and is having a blast!!

Will be there next week for my 4th training center course, 4th time with my
son, 1st with my wife so any thoughts on how to help her get the most of
non--Scouting spouse program would be appreciated, otherwise I may be
taking her to the airport on Wednesday.
