The reason for the later mosquito hatch is the snow melt/seasonal temperature
increases begin at the bottom of the valleys and work their way upwards. The
lower altitude camps were dry and fairly bug-free--but Cottonwood and Clear
Creeks and Mount Phillips had swarms of skeeters around July 1.
