Rick,
We're leaving tomorrow and are going by way of Albuquerque. Here are
some of our plans.
All self-arranged, didn't use a company
Renting 5 mini-vans for 2 crews of 12 - total 24- for the duration. We
plan to remove the middle and back seats from one of them to be used for
packs. About the same cost as chartering a bus but allows us to store
things while on the trail
Couldn't get our personal auto insurance companies to cover us for
vehicles larger than 9-passengers
Tomorrow night camping at Bandelier National Monument ($35 total cost)
Friday touring Taos area, maybe hike Wheeler Peak
Friday night at Kit Carson Motel
Originally planned to camp at Cimarron Canyon State Park, but found out
there are no showers
Saturday check-in at Philmont
We return on Aug. 7. Will let you know how things work out and what we
wish we'd done differently.

We are beginning our fact finding and preparations for our 2004 trip to
Philmont. After having explored central and southern Colorado on our
three recent pre-Philmont trips, we are leaning toward flying into
Albuquerque. On our first trip, in 1999, we used a full service
transportation outfit (Adventure Trails). We loved that, but on each
subsequent trip we have become more comfortable, confident, and
independent. Now, as we research our options for 2004,
