This year in addition to be able to earn the Arrowhead Trek patch crews were
also able to earn the Philmont Duty to God patch. This is the first trek
that I have been on that this was an option. I must admit that each crew
member took this seriously and it was a very treasured time for our crew
each night as we reflected our thoughts on the "quote of the day" after our
nightly Thorns, Roses & Buds.
Below is a copy of our daily quotes. FYI.

 REFLECTIONS OF CREW 616 A-1

All members of our crew elected to earn the "Duty to God" patch while on
our 11 day trek at Philmont. We did so by each crew member being
responsible at some time during the trek for prayer and grace and also by
giving a "quote of the day" for reflection. In the evening, all crew
members gave their insight into that quote after reflecting on the quote
throughout the day of hiking. Everyone looked forward to reflecting on the
quote after sharing our roses, thorns, and buds. We were led by our
chaplain Jake Wells. I have listed the quotes below.

Day 1- The journey is the destination.
Day 2- There is more to life than increasing its speed.
Day 3- A journey of 151,203 steps begins with a single step.
Day 4- Actions speak louder than dreams.
Day 5- "The Stonecutter Fable"
Day 6- If you can separate what you did right from what you did wrong,
you can learn a lot more from failure than from a big success.
Day 7- One loses much by failing to attempt.
Day 8- I may not be the man I should be or the man with Christ's help
I
will become, but thank God I am not the man I used to be.
Day 9- One feels as if one is dissolved into the universe.
