MessageThe only thing different that I recall was that we were taught to split the pots, bowls, etc between the sump and the dining fly if it was put up and if we had our packs under it.

We were taught the following (as best as I can remember it):
(We cooked using turkey bags as liners to our 8 qt pot - not taught as part of ranger training)
1. Lick your bowl and spoon as clean as possible
2. Pour a small amount of water in bowl to further clean bowl
3. Drink the water in bowl (not forced, but suggested). If this is done right, it's hard to tell the bowl/spoon was ever used)
4. Heat a small amount of water in the pot to clean pot (if not using turkey bag) and to do final wash on bowls and spoons
5. Slowly pour water (and suspended food residue) over Sump frisbee.
6. Use spatula to steer water through frisbee into sump until empty.
7. Scrap residual food particles from sump frisbee into yum-yum bag (including turkey bag in our case).
8. Scrub screen on sump with pinecone to minimize smell.
9. Store yum-yum bag and frisbee (in separate bag or in yum-yum bag) in bear bag for the evening.
10. Place pot(s), bowls and spoons in a stack next to sump to act as alarm in the event of a visitor during the night.
In the case where no sump is available (e.g., Rich Cabins), do the same thing over a pile of rocks instead of the sump and then distribute the rocks broadly to disseminate the odor of any food.
Bowls and spoons are sterilized in the boiling water at the beginning of each evening meal.
hope this helps.

Would someone comment on the clean up method taught in Ranger Training this year (2004).
Larry.
