Most of our crew used an old pair of tennis shoes. This was after lots of research as to what was available, price, weight, support, durability, etc. Plenty of support and durability to walk around in. Enough support that you could make do for a while if you had a boot or foot problem on the trail. One crew member had purchased an expensive backpacker type camp shoe with mesh uppers and a normal tennis shoe sole. My off brand tennis shoes only weighed a couple of ounces more and packed nearly as compactly.

Going to Philmont in 13 days. Still don't know what camp shoes might be the best. Any suggestions? My budget is about shot with equiping 2 boys and myself. Weight and space is an issue. Durability I know is also a necessity. Aqua shoes are light and compactible, low cost, but are they feasible walking around the camp? Several boys also are trying to decide what to bring. Thanks for any input.
