FWIW, we have found that the specialized sneakers generically referred
to as "marathon flats" are the lightest, most packable "real" sneakers
out there (as low as 12 ounces for a pair, though 1 pound per pair is
more common). These are usually available really cheap at surplus shoe
stores, like (if it still exists) Sneaker Stadium and like outfits.
I have been using a pair of marathon flats (the same pair) for about 10
years now, so about 20 high adventure treks and at least twice that many
backpacking weekends. They're still going strong....
