With spending 6 consecutive nights in the Valle (trek #27) our orange plastic
shovel got PLENTY of use. There were times when 2 would have been more
efficient :)
We have brought our shovel from home for several treks now, since the last
time we used a Philmont issued shovel it was the short handle steel shovel, that
was no fun to carry.
A humorous side note: one scout advised us at the end of the trek that
digging cat holes was not necessary since there were many ready-made gopher (or
other critter) holes to chose from. Not what I would have liked to hear, but it
did bring a smile to my face.
Oh, the resourcefulness of youth!
