In 2002 I sent my wife a postcard every day. Most of the time at the staff camps there was someone either going to base camp or passing through on the way to base camp. One time I asked a staffer on the trail if he was on the way and he said he was due in base camp the next day. Staff was very helpfull.
It was nice to be able to unwind by writing down the days events like a diary and share those with Mrs. B.
