Roy,
I've been getting along dandily with the same Parkay butter "bowl" for over
3 years. I took it to Philmont in 2002 and it performed admirably. I can't
believe it weighs more than an ounce and it holds 16 oz. Best of all its
free. Be careful, I think the original contents may contain at least a
modicum of material that usually goes to waist. I can't quite reach the
bottom to lick it out completely, but it releases the last vestiges of
dinner very easily while gut sumping. I'm sure there are others that have
not experienced the same durability as my trusty bowl. Recently I purchased
two new Tubs-O-Parkay to ensure my son and I have new bowls for 2005 Crew
618-B.

In my continuing effort to loose weight (this post deals specifically
with *pack* weight although the other kind is on-going as well) I have
been playing around with one of the "bowls" from the various Micro-meals
(formerly called TV Dinners). The bowl that I am currently using has
served well for almost a year now (used 3 - 4 times a week), although it
hasn't been crammed into a pack for 10 days. No leaks, no cracks, still
sound as far as I can tell.
It weighs just under an ounce and holds 16 fluid ounces (vs Fairshare 7
1/2 oz/28 fl oz vs lexan 3 oz/16 fl oz). It's shallow enough to allow
"easy access" to the bottom, and although hot foods still require a
gentle touch, its not nearly as hot as metal; only slightly warmer to
the touch than my lexan bowl. Pack durability is the only concern - but
it has taken a fair share of abuse with no effect - time will tell.
Happy Trails
Roy Fisher
