We learned the same lesson the hard way in 2002. So what we have started
doing is trying to incorporate conservation work as part of our shake downs
and trip prep. This way the crew does it together, learns more teamwork and
the extra hours are done before you go.
We just recently finally finished our hours for our 2002 Philmont trek and
got the 50 miler. Using the above method, we were able to get our awards
right after our 2003 trip to Northern Tier.
