We seriously considered trudging on to Shafer's pass when we arrived at
North Fork Urraca and the trail to the remaining campsite was so muddy
and slick that it posed a safety hazard for the crew. Actually it was
a remaining part of a campsite occupied by our sister crew (not sure why
there was not a complete campsite available for us there). Concerns
about what that might do to the space at Shafers drove us to examine
alternate routes into camp and we cut through another campsite and
crossed the stream past the slick spot. But - my point is that simple
convenience and the lure of Simple Simon's might not be all that is
involved.
