Great to see that you made it back alive. Provo crews can be a challenge, especially when you take one of the hardest treks at Philmont. Regarding Shaefers. If you take a look at the itinerary guide, you will only see that there are a few crews that have Shaefers as the overnight stay before going into base camp. Unfortunately, experienced advisors whose crews get one of the camps on the approach to Shaefers like Upper Clarks Fork or North Fork Urraca, will head up to the pass so they have less of a walk in the final day. So much for advisors following instructions!!! The end result is that you have a jam packed campsite overnight, with more crews than programmed.
