How strict is Philmont on the weight restrictions?

Reni,
I am not an authority by any means, but I understand that for persons over 21
they may allow 2 pounds over the max. And I would caution against any
extreme/quick weight loss measures as the risks of dehydration are so great.
Best to call Philmont Medical Lodge and ask them. If he has no other issues
such as abnormal blood pressure and has been conditioning seriously for several
months, you might be able to get an advance approval. But they could easily
stick to their written advisories if you don't...Only one way to find out. (and
regrettably, one of our crews is faced with something similar - we are
leaving next week!)

Good luck - for everyone's sake!
