RE: [Philmont]: SSN on BSA Forms

I think that a year or two ago, the subject of BSA asking for SSNs on the Boy Scout Application was discussed - now we're talking about Philmont's asking for it on their medical.

Does anyone know BSA's intended use of one's SSN, especially for youth?
