Fortunately, hail rolls down hill.

passing on a Base Camp weather report from a staffer ...
The past two days at Philmont have been most unusual. In the late
afternoon we've had very severe thunder and lightning storms with lots
of rain and hail. We had so much rain yesterday that the staff lounge
flooded and several walkways washed out. In one of the culverts out
near the Welcome Center hail piled up about 2 feet deep after washing
down from higher points. At night, it had been pretty cold as well. I
sure feel sorry for the campers in the backcountry--
