Andre -

We did this trek in 1999, brought back some memories. Embedded a couple of comments...

Our Trek wasn't scheduled to leave until 2:30 (don't know if that's because it was Trek 4, or because we got to Philmont later than planned, or what). But it did allow us to get a quick tour of Villa Philamonte before we left. If you do that, try to allow at least an hour, we had about 50 minutes, and it wasn't quite enough, as our tour guide had to rush.
Comment - Morning or afternoon buses is a function of when you go through Logistics - the schedule for the next morning is created right after lunch, so (unless there is space on an already scheduled bus) in Logistic in the afternoon equals an afternoon bus on Day 2. Since Day 2 is always short (except for Dr. Bob...), I have come to prefer an afternoon bus to allow the Villa tour that morning.

On to Crooked Creek, mosquitoes are getting a little worse. We were scheduled to pick up food at Phillips Junction yesterday, but we decided to wait and do it this morning. It didn't make sense to us to go over to PJ, get food, come back to Beaubien, and then go back through PJ this morning on the way to Crooked Creek. They weren't real happy about that, it seems that one of the ways they keep track of the Treks is by the scheduled food pick ups.
Comment - suspect that was just beause it was early in the season, and they weren't aware that Trek 4 has this quirk. Many (most? all?) crews realize they don't have to make that first pickup and do exactly what you did.

IN HINDSIGHT, WE SHOULD HAVE GONE ON TO CIMARRONCITO, DONE THE PROGRAM, WHILE OTHERS WENT FOR FOOD VIA ANOTHER TRAIL (THROUGH CATHEDRAL ROCK), AND THEN LATER CLIMBED TO WEBSTER PARKS. YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY.
Comment - Going to Ute Gulch from Cito is certainly the right advice (there is no need to get to Webster Park before dinner, or even cook at Cito with its water and then go, setup tents, and turn in) but Grouse Canyon is the route to use - Cathedral Rock / Window Rock / Hidden Valley is great, but there is no time to do it on Trek 4, and it is a LOT longer.
