Roy:
Thanks for the input. I had totally forgotten that "program" was enroute.

One disadvantage of this route is that it takes you out of the program
opportunity at Clear Creek - black powder rifle, tomahawk throwing and
Rocky Mountain Fur Company. And depending on the route taken off of Big
Red might make it a bit more out of the way to do program at Crooked
Creek - homestead - unless you do it in the morning sans packs, before
you head down to PJ (that's what our crew did).
If you are hiking along a creek, whether Rayado or Comanche, there is a
good chance of encountering mosquitos, and you will still probably have
to deal with bugs once you get to camp, so I guess it a matter of
duration. The hike from Clear Creek to Porky is a very pleasant hike and
I would expect the wildflowers along the way to be extraordinary this
year, if you are in to that sort of thing. It's a trade off.
As for the specifics regarding Red Hills and Big Red, I will defer to
those who have been there.
Have a great trek and I hope this helps.
Happy Trails,
Roy Fisher
