Thanks Dr. Bob! I never thought that a guitar string would be a bartering
chip!

Subject: Re: [Philmont]: Campfire Songs
He is very unlikely to be allowed to play at any campfire or stomp;
however, he is very likely to be able to borrow a guitar during
down-time at staff-camps where some of the staffers own guitars. As a
hint, he is more likely to be granted use of a guitar if he brings along
a few sets of strings as payment. Strings are hard to come by in the
backcountry. I have been able to torture a large number of guitars in
this barter arrangement. This year I am bringing my own Martin Backpacker.
I haven't heard what's on the current list. In 2000 and 2002 they were
on a Robert Earl Keene kick, along with the usual classics that you can
hear on the Tabasco Donkeys, Philsongs I, Philsongs II, and Philmont
Collection CD's, and the Riding Down the Canyon tape. I am guessing
they will be doing some of the stuff off the Rifters album this summer,
notably Edge of Texas and Ballad of B.F. Vance. Certainly both are on
my personal playlist.
