Re: [Philmont]: Anyone carrying Water Purifiers this summer?

Pete,

In 2004, we carried 3 filters (PUR hikers). We used them to filter
water from streams (2-3 occasions) and used the Polar pur to finish the
job on trek #3. I always made sure that the crew had a minimum of 4
liters for the trail. I made them drink a liter before we left for the
day, carry 4 and drink another liter when we got to our camp for the
night. (copious and clear, as the saying goes) We had enough water
through the day, so we refilled our 3 liter bags and nalgenes overnight
to make sure that we had good water for the next day. Cooking was not a
problem, we filtered and polar pur'ed enough on our way to make dinners
(1) that needed it.

Of course, water availability for your trek is going to be the crucial
item. We had no problem with that.

Hope this helps. Have a great time!!
