I just got back from the airport moments ago, returning from Trek 21. Ill
try and post some notes in the next day or so as I unpack. One thing to
note (and Im sorry if its already been mentioned, but I have over 1000
emails to through) is that burro packing is a REQUIRED program this year
no exceptions unless approved by Mark Anderson (and there have only been two
exceptions this summer, both because of Scouts with allergies). Because of
this, most crews will now have to go through Ponil and take the road to
Pueblano as opposed to the much more scenic hike over Wilson Mesa. One of
the other crews in our contingent had the AM horse rides at Ponil, then they
had to pack the burro and they didnt get into Pueblano until 7:30pm! My
crew actually had to leave our burro at Pueblano (with the permission of the
Philmont staff) because it refused to cross the creek as we headed from
there to Head of Dean our crew and the staff tried for over two hours, but
to no avail.
Off for some much-needed sleep, but as I said, Ill post some notes in the
very near future.
