I went the expensive route and bought PacMocs. They worked great in camp, but they were bulky in the pack. They will last forever, so now I'm using them as camp shoes even on our monthy campouts. They don't weigh much, just bulky.
I think a couple of our boys brought aqua socks and they were OK. Biggest problem would be toe stubbage. If you walk into a root or something, it's going to feel like you did it open-toed. Not sure I'd walk around in the dark with them on unless I just had to.
I think the problem with not washing tyvek is it's bulk due to the stiffness. Harder to get small for your pack. I've never used it before, but I plan to recommend it to the crew for trek next year.
