I avoid all of the chaffing by wearing boxer briefs. They're made in a
polypro type material. Both REI carries their own as well as another one or
two mfg.

On the camp shoes, I use $6.00 house shoes ( leather moccasin type) from
Dollar General store. They can be branded and hold up ok in camp. No good
any where else.
On the Tyvek, wash with out soap. Use warm water, I tried cold and it did
not work. When cutting out the pattern, cut it a bit larger than the size
needed. The first one I made this weekend was for a 2 man tent. After
washing it, its was used for a 1 man tent foot print. What I found is when
its washed, you will find that you have a million small wrinkles in it now.
It will relax some, not much. This is what eats up the room you had before
you washed it.
The extra around what you have cut out for the "good side" can be made into
small bags. They are waterproof except for the whole in the top, this will
depend on how you close the top, draw string, fold, Velcro or how ever.
On the Butt Paste, I think it would be in the name, haven't seen many 14 to
18 year olds wanting to use Diaper rash creams. Just remember its a
extremely smellable item.

Subject: [Philmont]: Three quick questions
Philmonters....
1. Re-visiting the topic of camp shoes. Would "water socks" make good camp
shoes? They're certainly lightweight and pack small. I'm wondering about
wearing them around camp for several hours and how one's feet would be at
the end of the day.
2. Tyvek ground sheets. Someone mentioned washing the sheets in a clothes
washing machine to soften them and make them less likely to "rattle" in the
wind. In washing them, should I add soap or just use water by itself?
3. Someone on this list server (I think) listed four items that were of the
utmost importance to keep in the first aid kit. Butt Paste was one of them,
along with moleskin and a couple other items. I lost the post someplace.
Our first aid kit is fully stocked. I'm not concerned about it, but this
particular post listed a couple items that came highly recommended (Butt
Paste, in particular) so I wanted to look into them (so to speak). Would
the author please re-post that information? Thanks!
