I tried washing tent-sizeTyvek groundcloth in the washer and it was a mess.
We have a heavy duty washer and it did not agitate well and was as stiff
when it came out as when it went in. I'm not sure you could even wash a
fly-size piece in the washer at all. We use Tyvek as groundcloths a lot,
and they soften with wear. The reason for trying to soften them as they can
be noisy when used as a fly, but if you are using them for under your tent,
it won't matter. As someone else said, they don't really shrink, they
wrinkle, so don't worry about the size.
Aqua socks are light weight, but make sure they breathe well. At the end of
the day you really want your feet to have a dry environment. Also,
depending on your feet, you may need support a water shoe may not offer. I
have Keen sandals, and to me the weight (and $85 cost) is worth it as I
need the support and the toe protection is extremely valuable. I don't know
of another brand with rubber toes. I hear the very lightweight track racing
shoes for runners work well too, but would also be expensive. If you have
something still in the box that you haven't tried yet, and you're leaving
in 5 days, you may want to re-think that......... just a thought. It's very
unlikely your boots will fail, but I'm sure there exceptions out there!
Good luck and have fun!
Jill
