<<Ok Philmont vets....

Regarding camp shoes, right now, my son and I have Tevas.... you know, Aqua Socks. I'm questioning bringing them for camp shoes in spite of their light weight because of many of your comments and suggestions. We're leaning toward sneakers.

The question my son brought up, which I hadn't thought of is, what shoes do we wear while rock climbing? Our boots or our camp shoes?

OK, not condescending, but this comes up every year and has for umpteen years, but that doesn't make it any less important for you.

Leave the Tevas and the water shoes in Wisconcin and use them on your nextraft, canoe or boat trip.

When you go out West to the dry, rocky area called Philont, take a pair of moccasins from WalMart, Target, etc. They are leather, have molded rubber soles and various lining, are relatively inexpensive and you will enjoy wearing them in camp, while you walk (as opposed to hike) to the campground activity of the day, latrine or just around camp. The rubber molded sole allows you to walk on damp ground dwith relative dry comfort.

AND your toes are protected which just MIGHT keep you from spending half your trip in medical hanging around PhilHQ. I can't think of a worse place to spend 5 days when you want to be up in the coll, high country.

Do as you please, but this is hard earned advise garnered over many years. Take it or leave it.
