Just curious if others returning this year have seen a decline in LNT
procedures by Philmont crews or if my experiences this year was an
abnormality. Or maybe I am just too sensitive on these issues. At Ute
Meadows, we saw a crew that had hung their backpacks to trees near their
tents (obviously this is not just a tree damage issue). At several
camps we saw dining flies tied to trees. When we crossed Highway 64
there were two crews practically swimming in the Cimarron Creek.
Fortunately we had discussed these issues in our crew during shakedowns
and they understood why we do not do these things. I did not see this
kind of activity on my first two treks so I am wondering if there is
less emphasis on these issues by Advisors and Rangers.
