>>Chapter 15, Winter Camping, begins " HAVE YOU ever heard some guy say
"Go camping in the winter! Are you out of your ever lovin' mind?"

:-)

I love this version too. It's more folksy and romantic and is written
in a style that still appeals to a mischievous sense of adventure. I
also love the homemade equipment plans. I recently made the backpacking
reflector oven but haven't hade much of a chance to try it out. I hope
I remember to take it on our next campout. It may not be much use
anymore with fire restrictions and Leave No Trace backpacking. But it
will make it on our car campouts.

FWIW, I drew up some plans for those stove an have them on our troop's
website:

I did make a mistake on the length of the slots on the sides. I
miscalculated the tab length on the tray and the bottom, so you'll need
to extend the slots a tad with tin snips a little on each side.

My next project this fall will be to make the larger Kraker Baker with
my son. He's an early riser and usually starts a small campfire on
those brisk autumn mornings. I figure I can easily convince him to take
advantage of those licking flames and bake up some biscuits to go with
that first cup of coffee.
