[philmont] Cakes at Philmont

Please don't ask your Ranger to do this. The pound cakes are for the Rangers to serve to their crews on the first night on the trek. It is supposed to be a Ranger thing, not a special birthday thing.

Rangers who take more than the one cake allowed are jeopardizing this practice, and some crews toward the end of the summer may not get any.

I never liked singling out one individual, who happened to have a birthday while on the trek, and celebrating their birthday. If you are going to do it, make it a crew birthday celebration.

It is against Philmont policy to send "party food" to crews in the back country. Packages received at the post office marked "special food" are automatically suspect. Special food is only handled by Logistics, and it is opened and repackaged before going to the back country.

contingent leaders let our rangers know, and they took care of getting pound
cake and icing to our crew leaders.

by day 5 the scouts loved it.
