[philmont] Phil memory

I'm sitting here at the Scout Camp tonight waiting for the OA calling out ceremony to finish so the membership secretary and I can verify names and addresses of the new candidates. We always have an ice cream get together for the Arrowmen and new candidates on Wednesday after the calling out. Last week during that social a Scouter walked past me and noticed my name tag and said my name out loud. I looked at him but did not recognize him at all. He identified himself and it turned out to be a guy from my Philmont crew in 1980. As it turned out, it was exactly 26 years to the day that we were at the ranch. (719 K-4) We caught up 26 years of life and he related to me how much that trip meant to him. He went to college and moved out of state for quite a few years and I had lost track of he and his Dad who was also a Scouter. He has never been back to the ranch, but is looking forward to returning there with his son soon. He and his son were in camp last week with their troop. It is always good to renew an old Scouting acquaintance especially someone like this. I unfortunately have lost track of quite a few of the Scouts that went to the Ranch with me. It is gratifying to see someone that I took and hear how much of an impact the ranch had on him. My first trip in 1967 was probably one of the major factors in keeping me in Scouts back then. I will stop rambling now, but I wanted to share a pleasant Philmont memory.
