Thanks for a good trip report, parts of your trek mirrored places our crew hiked a few weeks ago and parts from our Trek 32 trip in 2004 (where we also missed cons at Pueblano by 15 minutes because of the burro schedule.)
Regarding the mass of ladybugs at the top of Black Mountain - we found the same thing at the Tooth: one large rock near the high point just covered with ladybugs! Weird...

was so steep you were literally scrambling up the mountain with your hands
and feet, with full packs. I had read on this group that there isn't a view
from the top of Black, but we were able to see quite a bit, both on one of
the rock outcroppings half way up and again from the summit. The thing that
struck me most from the top was the number of lady bugs. They were
everywhere.
