We started a Troop tradition in '04 when we did wicking Tee shirts and
Fleeces for the crew with an embroidered bull. I've attached a picture of
our 2006 Crew Leader at Black Mountian that gives a pretty good look at the
Fleece. We chose to make the bull a bit smaller for a variety of reasons.
The short of it though is that for the cost of a Jac-Shirt we can supply a
fleece, a duffle bag and two wicking T Shirts, all embroidered.
I also think, in fact know, that our guys will wear the fleece ... durng the
trek and there after ... we have one guy that has worn his nearly every day
since the '04 trek. The wool Jac Shirt is, Im afraid, a relic from the
past, attractive to an older generation ... including me ... I still have
mine with the Bull from '74 ... but not currently due to several factors,
price and comfort among them. I've been surprised that TOTT hasn't done a
red fleece with bull, they do the fleece but with different identity.
with regard to the Bull and its history, Doug has the story basically
correct ... the details are on either Philmonts site ot TOTT's site ... it
was the Head, then the body then the tail ... imagine ... a kid that got to
go to Philmont three times!
with regard to the JacShirt and patch placement, for years the only
authorized patch was the BSA patch that was included. That said, my
JacShirt has more patches on it than red as it was the tradition in my
generation in my part of the world to use it as sort of a brag rag, every
district and council event patch went on the jacket ...
