I have to say I'm in the "wash your socks" camp rather than carrying a fresh set for each day. If the question is whether any blister prophylaxis or treatment will function with damp socks, I would point out that even carrying a fresh set of socks for each day will not, by itself, eliminate the possibility of damp or wet socks. During a several hour or all day thunderstorm, if you can't keep your socks dry (through boot waterproofing or the use of gaiters), it does not necessarily make sense to change to a dry pair of socks, which will only get damp or wet shortly thereafter.
The knowledge that a particular blister prophylaxis or treatment will hold up with damp or wet socks is very useful information.
