Handwashing Before Cooking - Our ranger taught our Scouts that they didn't
need to wash their filthy dirt crusted hands before handling food. They just
used some hand sanitizer. My opinion, this was stupid and disgusting, but
our Scouts followed their ranger training.

I agree, this is one of my few hot buttons. Many of our scouts have
substituted hand "sanitizing" for regular washing, taught by well-meaning
moms who are anxious about all the nasty germs on everything. Why anyone
would want to smear more smelly goop on top of days worth of dirt and scuzz
is beyond me. I don't ban the sanitizer (though I'd like to) but insist that
crew cooks do a normal handwashing before dinner prep.
