In 1999, my son and another scout perfected fishing while hiking. They'd hike a little ways ahead, (still in view of the crew), stop to fish, we'd hike past them, then they'd hike past us and stop at another spot. This went on for miles at a time. It was so funny to watch.
On Trek 12, We'll be hiking from Miners Park to Black Mountain camp (trail that crosses the stream 50+ times), also Philips JUnction to Clear Creek to name a few good streams

Any backcountry creek with enough water to hold fish will be better fishing than Fish Camp simply because Fish Camp receives so much fishing pressure. I have found the beaver ponds to be the most productive places to fish and they hold bigger fish than the creeks. For a trout fisherman, Philmont is a frustrating place to hike because you pass so much good trout water and have so little time to fish. Good luck.Dan PrestonLouisville, KYOn Jul 2, 2007, at 1:02 PM, Troop 681 Kim P wrote:
Looking at our trek route, there are some good places to fish before we get to Phillps Junction. We don't go through FISH camp this time. Looks like my older son will be joining us as 3rd advisor, he is a big time fisherman.
