If you have time to stop by the hotel, ask them to play their video. It's
about 10 minutes long with a nice history of the area and the hotel. The
boys were captivated.

The St. James has two options. The main dining room has a gourmet cuisine
that is priced accordingly. The bar area has a more casual cuisine that does
include steaks, buffalo burgers and some Mexican dishes. I have never found
the need to try the main dining room. On Autumn Adventure, I have always
taken the guides to the bar area with no complaints.
In 1999 or 2000, while I was lurking in the area (and trespassing on some
of the trails on the Ranch-let's keep that between you and me--don't try
this at home), I went into the St. James only to find that the main dining
room had been booked by a Japanese contingent. Some of the boys were
outside, with the advisors, while the parents were being seranaded by
musicians who went table to table. I determined to return the next day.
The next evening, I inquired about seating in the dining room. One of the
employees asked "Why?". I was a bit taken aback and she added "Have you seen
the prices?" She directed me to the bar area and I have happily eaten there
on many occasions since.
Don't miss touring the hallways and the rooms which indicate which
desperados slept in which rooms.
