[Philmont] Trail peak with full packs?

Yes. The trail raises some 750 ft in 3/4 to 1 mile from the pass above
Crater Lake, but then its a cruise down hill toward Beaubien. You may want
to consider walking in to Beaubien on the road after coming down from Trail
Peak, rather than climbing back up on the ridge west of the road to Beaubien
and then hiking into the southwest corner of Beaubien, but either way, its
pretty country. The wildflowers have really popped all over Philmont, so
its probably hard to find a place that is not gorgious. My best advise to
those hiking up from Crater Lake and then up over Trail Peak is to readjust
your boot laces after arriving at Crater Lake from Bear Caves to reduce
possibility of friction on the heel with all the altitude you will be
gaining. IOW, loosen up your toes and lock your heel into the back of the
boots. Also, leave Bear Caves early so that you can summit Trail Peak for
lunch.
