Trek 28:
On Day 4 (Rich Cabins to Greenwood Canyon) consider going up to 2 or 3 miles past the Greenwood Canyon Camp marker in order to make Day 5 a bit easier. Day 5 involves a difficult climb up and out of the canyon and then down the switch backs to Copper Park and will still be the most challenging day of the trek. We were fortunate to find a fantastic camp site about 3 kilometers past the Greenwood Canyon Camp marker at about where the trail reaches 8800 feet in elevation. Look to the left and go across a little bridge over the creek. It must be a forgotten camp site because there was even a sump present (which is not to be expected in Valle Vidal).
Day 6 involves the climb to Baldy. Consider going back up to the top of the switch backs. Then, you will find a steep trail that takes you up above tree line and across an alpine meadow that leads you to the northwest side of Baldy. It was a beautiful way to go but have your crew stay on the rocks and off the vegetation. They should also spread out so as to avoid treading over the same ground.
We postponed programs as French Henry until the morning of Day 7 thus avoiding a long, unhappy climb at the end of Day 6. This also allowed us to enjoy the programs all by ourselves in the morning rather than experiencing significant waiting in the afternoon when most crews show up at French Henry.
Try to get to Dean Cow (Day 8) early enough to do rock climbing before afternoon thunderstorms role in.
And, by all means, get out of camp at daybreak on your last day. It's a long one. Our crew leader had us get up before 4 AM.

If you decide to consider some of these recommendations, please just copy this and pass it on to your crew leader. Then just sit back and let him and his crew of fellow scouts decide what THEY want to do. I have already seen my share of advisors acting as back seat drivers or trying to show that they are superior hikers, navigators, and leaders. The scouts should lead. It is our privilege to follow along and watch them grow.
